About Metro Social Services — Nutrition Program
Metro Social Services’ Nutrition Program serves Davidson County; it does not cover all of Middle Tennessee. The meal and eligibility line is 615-880-2292, while the municipal administrative office is at 3055 Lebanon Pike. The city publishes two distinct options: shared meals at community sites and home delivery for people who meet more specific criteria.
For a congregate meal, the program generally requires participants to be at least 60 and live in Davidson County. It also makes room for spouses under 60 and, in certain senior high-rise housing developments, people with disabilities under 60. Sites provide group meals, activities, and monthly nutrition education. The official page lists Cohn Adult Learning Center, East Park Community Center, Elizabeth Community Center, and Hadley Community Center; each location has its own address and phone number.
Home-delivered meals are intended for Davidson County residents age 60 or older who are confined to their homes because of illness, incapacity, or disability, cannot prepare meals, and cannot get adequate food from family or another source. Metro requires a referral from a health or social-service professional and says that a referral does not guarantee approval. A physician, managed-care office, home-health agency, hospital, or social worker can start the process by calling 615-880-2459. The program says it returns calls within 24 business hours.
Participants are not charged for meals, although Metro welcomes donations to sustain the service. Call the chosen site before going: the city says congregate sites operate four and a half hours on weekdays, but enrollment, menus, and activities can vary by location. GNRC lists WeGo and transportation to certain nutrition sites; ask which option serves the person’s home address.
If the person lives outside Davidson County, GNRC directs nearby-county meal requests to the Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency. That distinction keeps residents of Williamson or Rutherford County from being sent to a municipal office that does not administer their application. Have the full address ready and explain whether the person can leave home, cook, walk, and rely on family support; those details help staff identify the right intake route.
