About Greater Nashville Regional Council — Aging and Disability Services
The Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC) coordinates services for older adults and people with disabilities across 13 Middle Tennessee counties, including Davidson County. Its Information and Assistance line, 615-255-1010 or 866-836-6678, is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Callers can explain a need before choosing which program to pursue. The initial conversation is free; some referred services are also free, while others may involve a contribution or fee.
GNRC is not a single meal provider and does not immediately assign a caregiver. A counselor listens, may conduct an initial assessment, and refers the caller to the responsible organization based on the home address and type of support: home-delivered meals, congregate dining, transportation, housekeeping, personal care, medication management, benefits, or disability resources. In Davidson County, for example, municipal meals go through Metro Social Services; several nearby counties use the Mid-Cumberland Human Resource Agency.
The helpline is also an entry point for family members who need respite or training. The Family Caregiver Support Program offers education, support groups, counseling, and possible financial assistance for respite, transportation, personal care, or adult-day activities, subject to criteria and funding. GNRC lists several eligible caregiver groups, including people caring for adults age 60 or older and relatives supporting someone with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. Call first with the caregiver’s relationship, address, and care responsibilities before gathering paperwork.
For people who want to remain at home, GNRC coordinates referrals to providers that may help with transportation, meal preparation, housekeeping, and other daily needs. The agency reports waitlists for in-home support across all 13 counties, so a referral should not be treated as a guaranteed start date. Ask which provider receives the application, whether an in-person assessment is required, what income or health documents are needed, and what interim options are available.
GNRC’s regional office is at 44 Vantage Way, Suite 450, in Nashville. That is the council’s office; meals, in-home care, and transportation are provided through local partners and may be based elsewhere. GNRC’s resource network includes Spanish-language and other language support, and a counselor can help separate a Medicare question, a ride request, or an application for day-to-day help at home.
GNRC is the designated Area Agency on Aging and Disability for Davidson and 12 other Middle Tennessee counties. Its information line connects callers with meals, in-home assistance, transportation, caregiver support, and benefits guidance; it does not aut
