About Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park

Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park turns a walk into an open-air lesson about Tennessee. Across its 19 acres, a 200-foot granite map traces the state’s rivers and boundaries, while memorials, fountains, a history avenue and a carillon shape the route towards the Capitol. Entry is free and no booking is needed to walk the paths. Beside the Tennessee State Museum and Farmers’ Market, it forms an easy circuit in north-central Nashville.

Visitors often describe it as a well-kept, peaceful space among museums, with places to stop and read plaques, look at the map or rest on the grass. Views of the Capitol and the memorials make it more than a simple plaza; still, fountains and other features may be under maintenance, and parts of the route offer little shade at midday in summer. A quick walk is enough to cross it, but anyone reading the panels and circling the monuments may stay much longer.

The park is around James Robertson Parkway and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, Nashville, TN 37243. Tennessee State Parks lists daily opening from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset, with no admission charge. The museum, Capitol and market are a short walk away, so you can park once and combine all three. Check official notices for works, bring water on hot days and choose morning or late afternoon for a walk with less sun.
