VSAC-Assisted Scholarships and Tuition Benefit Programs
The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, known as VSAC, administers scholarships and tuition benefits aimed mainly at Vermont residents pursuing college or training. Its 2027–28 booklet lists more than 150 opportunities with different sponsors and purposes; this is not one award for every applicant. Some funds focus on a town, school, career, or particular need, so the first task is to match the rules before starting an application.
About VSAC-Assisted Scholarships and Tuition Benefit Programs
The Vermont Student Assistance Corporation, known as VSAC, administers scholarships and tuition benefits aimed mainly at Vermont residents pursuing college or training. Its 2027–28 booklet lists more than 150 opportunities with different sponsors and purposes; this is not one award for every applicant. Some funds focus on a town, school, career, or particular need, so the first task is to match the rules before starting an application.
Many VSAC-assisted funds use the Unified Scholarship Application, or USA, through a MyVSAC account; the booklet spells out each program’s documents and conditions. Vermont residency is the general rule, though stated exceptions exist. For example, one skilled-trades tuition benefit does not require Vermont residency but gives preference to applicants enrolled in a Vermont-based program. Reading the specific listing prevents an applicant from overlooking an exception or assuming a general rule applies to every fund.
For 2027–28, VSAC has posted the booklet and lists February 10, 2027 as the postmark deadline for the USA and documents for certain tuition-benefit programs; other scholarships in the booklet have different deadlines. The skilled-trades benefit is reviewed as applications arrive while funds remain. Create an account early, identify matching awards, request recommendations with time to spare, and verify the submission method and deadline for each fund.
Before applying, confirm that the cycle and academic program match your circumstances and that the window is still open. Start at the administrator’s link, save the rules, and prepare transcripts, FAFSA information, essays, and recommendations in the requested format. Track the application and reference deadlines separately: some portals close different components on different days. After submitting, monitor email and your dashboard until the file is marked complete. Ask your campus financial-aid office how the award will coordinate with FAFSA, other scholarships, and benefits, and request a written estimate of remaining charges. Do not budget funds that have not been awarded.
To compare this benefit with other options, ask financial aid for an estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, and excluded expenses. Confirm whether it renews annually, what GPA or course load it requires, and whom to contact if the student account does not show the payment. Keep award letters and receipts until the school confirms disbursement.
