About Alabama Student Grant Program (ASGP)

The Alabama Student Grant Program, or ASGP, is a state grant for students attending a limited list of independent private colleges and universities in Alabama. Unlike ASAP, the program is not described as need-based. Awards vary with available funding, with an official maximum of $3,000 per academic year. That figure is a ceiling, not a guaranteed payment; students should confirm the current amount and deadline in the 2026–27 form and with their institution’s financial-aid office.

The current list names Amridge, Faulkner, Huntingdon, Miles, Oakwood, Samford, Spring Hill, South University–Montgomery, Stillman, U.S. Sports Academy, and the University of Mobile. The administrator explicitly warns applicants not to send the form to a school outside that list. The institution’s location and status matter alongside a student’s residency; verify the exact campus name on the state page before choosing a college.

Start with the participating college’s financial-aid office, which receives the 2026–27 form and confirms the term instructions. The application lists separate dates: September 15 for fall, January 15 for winter quarter, February 15 for spring semester, and April 15 for spring quarter. As of October 13, 2026, the fall date has passed; ask the college which upcoming term is accepting applications and what residency evidence it requires. Submit the completed form to the participating school’s aid office and keep proof of receipt.

Include the program in a net-price comparison alongside institutional scholarships, federal grants, and uncovered expenses. Ask when ASGP will be credited to the bill and what happens if state allocation is reduced or arrives after the first payment. The administrator does not promise that the grant will cover all tuition. If a family must pay up front, request a written college plan and do not confuse this grant with a loan or automatic discount.

Ask financial aid for a term-by-term estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, and other expenses. Keep the award decision, any service or loan agreement, and renewal records. If your studies, residence, or employment change, contact the administrator before making a decision that could affect the aid.
