About Art Deco Museum
The Art Deco Museum is a short introduction to South Beach’s streetscape: before looking at the façades, it helps visitors recognise portholes, concrete eyebrows, tropical reliefs and streamlined lines that make one building different from another. It is run by the Miami Design Preservation League, the preservation group formed to protect the neighbourhood’s architecture. The small space also serves as a Welcome Center, shop and starting point for guided walks.
Visitors often value the staff explanations, the chance to learn before walking along Ocean Drive and the shop’s design books and objects. Others find the display brief and expect more galleries; it works best as a short introduction rather than a substitute for a large museum. Official tours start here and cover Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival and Miami Modern architecture; strolling the street remains free if you prefer to look around on your own.
It is at 1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach, FL 33139; call (305) 672-2014. The Welcome Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for some holidays; check MDPL’s page for tour departures and current ticket details. Its position at Ocean Drive and 10th Street is a few steps from Lummus Park and the beach. Book a walk if you want architectural context; if time is short, visit the museum and continue south on foot.
