About Phoenix Dental Assistant School

Dental Assistant Training in Phoenix and Mesa

Phoenix Dental Assistant School is a training center specializing in preparing dental assistants. Its program is taught in real dental offices in Phoenix and is designed for students to gain hands-on experience with industry equipment and procedures, alongside working dental professionals. The school presents itself as a joint initiative between Zollege and local dental offices, so training takes place where the real work happens.

The 12-Week Program

The training path is structured as a twelve-week course. The admissions process is organized into four steps: learn about the program and contact the admissions team, complete the application by choosing a start date and payment plan, pay the deposit to secure your seat — an amount deducted from tuition — and complete the program. The school states that students receive a free set of scrubs when classes begin.

The calendar includes several start dates throughout the year. The session noted at the time of review was October 17, with classes on Saturdays from 1:30 to 6:00 p.m., and the school warned that seats were limited.

Certifications and Requirements Upon Completion

Those who complete the program receive a Certificate of Completion and a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification card issued by the American Heart Association. In addition, after passing the Radiation Health & Safety Exam (RHS) — whose fee is paid by the school and which is required by the state of Arizona — and completing the program, the graduate is recognized as a Radiation Health and Safety approved Dental Assistant.

Methodology and Learning Environment

Classes take place in working dental offices, with direct practice on the same instruments and technologies used in daily work. The school combines online modules that students complete during the week with in-person review sessions on Saturdays. Among the advantages highlighted in its presentation are schedule flexibility, multiple start dates, an equipped training environment, and a guided admissions process with defined requirements.

Career Support and Student Profile

The center offers job search support, including resume review, interview tips, and guidance from employment assistance specialists. The testimonials collected repeatedly mention instructors Mandee and Gee, as well as the ability to balance the program with work or parenting. One student notes that preparation for the DANB RHS exam was insufficient and that, after failing it, she had to pay the $270 fee again.

Origin of the Project

Zollege was founded in 2010 as Vandelay Education by Dr. Thomas Ince, a dentist who couldn't find well-trained dental assistants to hire. His approach was to create a shorter program, taught hands-on in working dental offices, and structured so it could be paid for without loans. His brother Ryan, a physician, faced the same problem in healthcare, and the two collaborated on a medical assistant program built with the same accelerated, in-office approach.
