About Southwest Tennessee Community College — Whitehaven Center
Whitehaven Center is at 1234 Finley Road, in the Whitehaven neighborhood near Methodist South Hospital, Whitehaven High School and Graceland. Southwest converted a former grocery store into this 44,000-square-foot center, designed for as many as 1,500 students. Its scale makes it a recognizable neighborhood site, but its course range is more focused than the two main campuses; students should look up the location code before assuming that a degree program is taught here.
The center is the home of Funeral Service Education, a career-focused Associate of Applied Science program. Southwest publishes 63 semester hours across funeral directing and home management, business, law and ethics, anatomy, microbiology, pathology, embalming, restorative art and grief counseling. Classroom and laboratory instruction take place at Whitehaven. Graduates may sit for the national board examination, then must complete an apprenticeship and Tennessee’s funeral-service law exam to qualify for state licensure.
The location also supports general academic coursework and vocational and technical learning for area high-school students. Southwest lists an Academic Support Center, library and online registration on site; the student lounge is available to currently enrolled students. The college’s course schedule assigns location codes to classes so students can distinguish Whitehaven from Macon Cove, Union Avenue and Maxine A. Smith. The official map shows its place in south Memphis and nearby highway connections.
For a student comparing career paths, Whitehaven offers a direct route into a specialized profession without requiring daily travel to a larger campus for every class. Admissions and advising can explain the college-wide application, financial aid and course sequence; program faculty handle profession-specific requirements. Ask about the current schedule, clinical or lab dates, parking and student services before making a first visit, as these arrangements depend on the program and term.
