Southwest Tennessee Community College — Union Avenue Campus

Union Avenue sits at 737 Union Avenue between downtown and Midtown, a short distance from Memphis’s medical district and cultural venues. It is Southwest’s second main campus and the home base for nursing, allied health and natural-science instruction. The college also places communication, graphics and fine arts, social and behavioral sciences and emergency medical services here. Before travelling, check the schedule’s campus code: courses across the district do not all meet at this address.

Health pathways give Union Avenue its particular character. Nursing students complete classroom and clinical coursework, while radiologic technology, medical laboratory technology, physical therapist assistant, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy and EMS courses connect learning with clinical or emergency-care settings. Several programs use selective admission and separate prerequisites; the college’s main application alone does not guarantee a place in them. The theatre and Verties Sails Gymnasium add music, performance, campus recreation and Saluqi athletics to the site.

The campus map is useful for more than finding a classroom: it locates Admissions and Records, Advising and Career Services, Financial Aid, the Veterans Office, cashier, testing, bookstore, library, cafeteria, child care and the Academic Support Center. Parking is marked on the map, and the college directs students and employees to register vehicles for an annual decal. Public transit serves the downtown corridor, but route patterns change; use MATA’s current planner for the exact origin and time of travel.

Students who need English support can ask about Southwest’s ESL placement and the English department’s course sequence before choosing general education classes. ESL sections are also listed for composition, academic success and communication. Union Avenue provides admissions, advising and financial-aid offices, while the current course schedule identifies which programs and sections actually meet here in each term.
