About Wisconsin Grant — Private Non-Profit (WG-PNP), HEAB
WG-PNP is the Wisconsin Grant pathway for residents attending an independent, private nonprofit college based in Wisconsin. Although it shares the Wisconsin Grant name with the UW, technical and Tribal versions, it uses a separate formula and serves a different group of schools. Eligibility is based on financial need and enrollment. The grant does not have to be repaid when conditions are met. Before relying on it, confirm that the campus participates and that your degree or certificate program qualifies.
FAFSA is the application: HEAB expressly says no second state form is needed for Wisconsin Grant consideration. The agency receives FAFSA data to calculate SAI and considers need alongside the student budget and enrollment load. Students must be Wisconsin residents, undergraduates at a participating Wisconsin-based nonprofit private institution and enrolled at least part time; a lighter load can reduce the award. Eligibility is capped at ten semesters. File the correct year’s FAFSA and respond promptly to any verification request from the college.
For 2026–27, the state formula sets a full-time annual maximum of $4,850 for students with an SAI of $8,000 or less. Published tiers decrease the amount: $3,500 for SAI $8,001–$10,000, $2,000 for $10,001–$12,000 and $1,000 for $12,001–$14,000. An additional $14,001–$16,000 tier may receive $1,000 only if funds remain. Awards are prorated for less-than-full-time enrollment. These are program formulas, not an individual award letter, and state funds can be committed.
Timing matters: HEAB’s GLASS page showed 2026–27 WG-PNP certifications awarded only through August 14, 2026, while the later WG-TC status had advanced into October. These dates describe institutional processing and funds, not a student-wide FAFSA deadline. Submit FAFSA early and ask the college whether your record reached HEAB, whether its allocation is committed, when certifications may update and whether a waitlist exists. If the campus priority date has passed, ask what it can still review; do not assume the federal FAFSA deadline preserves this state funding.
Student discussions of aid offers often combine Pell, institutional scholarships, state grants and housing on one account. One family may see tuition covered yet still owe for room, meals or transport; another may receive a different figure because of SAI or enrollment. Comments do not replace HEAB’s formula or predict an applicant’s result. Request a written semester offer showing WG-PNP by name, credits, amount, other aid, covered charges, remaining balance and disbursement date. If an expected award is missing, ask which document is outstanding and whether a documented financial change supports a review.
