Brant's Market

Brant’s Market connects Lucas with a food tradition brought from Czechoslovakia. James and Marie Brant acquired the shop in 1922, and the business became known for sausages, ring bologna and jaternice. Its history includes a change of ownership: after closing in early 2018, it reopened that summer under Adam and Ashley Comeau. The continuity belongs to the recipes and the place, not to an uninterrupted century of the same family’s ownership.

The market says its ring bologna and smoked sausages are made on site. Jaternice adds an older Bohemian liver-sausage tradition, while the counter also carries fresh meat cuts. Those products have different uses: some suit a ready-to-eat selection after confirmation at the counter, while raw steaks and other fresh cuts require cooking.

Cheeses, beef sticks and products from small food businesses broaden the choice. For travelers with a kitchen, the shop can become part of preparing a meal; for others, it is a place to learn about local food and choose provisions suited to the journey.

This is a food market, not a conventional sit-down restaurant. The Lucas store’s own page lists Tuesday through Saturday opening and closure on Sunday and Monday. Confirm availability for a particular product and keep perishable purchases appropriately chilled.
