About Los Angeles College Promise (LACP)
Los Angeles College Promise is an initiative of the Los Angeles Community College District and public and philanthropic partners to help community-college students begin and complete a degree, transfer, or earn a workforce certificate. The package includes eligible tuition waived for the first two years, priority registration, additional financial support when available, and a dedicated academic-support team.
The program operates across district colleges, but admission steps and eligibility depend on the student pathway and campus. The official page describes first-time and returning full-time students; living in Los Angeles alone does not automatically qualify someone, and not every course plan should be assumed covered without limits. First confirm the participating college, required course load, and continuation rules for your cohort.
The tuition waiver removes eligible enrollment charges, but it does not necessarily cover noneligible fees, materials, transportation, housing, or living costs. The district presents Promise as a completion strategy: priority registration and a support team can help students avoid losing courses because of scheduling or financial barriers. To see the real balance, compare the aid notice with the campus account and ask questions before accepting loans.
Start by applying to the chosen college and filing FAFSA, then complete the Promise application required by that institution. Los Angeles City College, for example, publishes term-specific registration dates; those are not necessarily the district-wide Promise deadline. Contact Ask LACP or the campus team, submit records early, and keep confirmation that your student pathway was accepted into the program.
Ask the financial-aid office for a written term-by-term estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, books, and other costs. Keep the award letter, records, and any service agreement. If your studies, residence, or course load change, contact the administrator before that decision affects your aid.
