About Long Beach City College — Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus
The Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC) sits at 1305 E Pacific Coast Highway. LBCC established the site in 1949 at the former Hamilton Junior High School; it was known as Pacific Coast Campus before the college adopted the TTC name in 2024 to reflect its mix of technical instruction and public learning. Its role is distinct from the Liberal Arts Campus: TTC is where prospective students find several hands-on trade programs, the English as a Second Language office and a range of community education services.
Career and technical areas listed at TTC include advanced transportation technology, automotive training, architecture and drafting, electrical technology, metal fabrication, welding and horticulture. Students can compare an Associate of Science with a shorter Certificate of Achievement. The Advanced Transportation Technology page lists a 33-unit certificate covering basic automotive systems, electrical diagnostics, hybrid and electric vehicles, alternative fuels and heavy-duty technology; its faculty say certificates may take as little as one semester, while an associate pathway is about two years depending on course load and prerequisites. Check the current program map and class schedule before assuming a credential is offered at a particular time or that every course meets at TTC.
TTC is also LBCC’s main starting point for English-language learners. The ESL Office in room LL211 offers application help, student-ID retrieval, orientation, placement support, course selection and enrollment guidance. Nearby, the ESL Learning Center in LL216 offers free tutoring, computer-based practice, help with reading, writing, pronunciation and speaking, and a place to work on assignments. The department has both free noncredit courses and credit sequences for academic English. The placement survey helps guide students into the right level; staff can explain whether a class carries college units, appears on a transcript and can be covered by financial aid.
The campus map and college pages identify a library, a fitness center, a child-development center, student spaces and specialized technical learning environments. LBCC describes its Labor Center as a place for programs and events developed with employers and unions, connecting classroom skills with industry experience. Community classes extend beyond the campus, so the place where someone completes an application or meets an adviser may not be where a particular class is held. The official course location and room should be checked for each term. A 2026 campus sign installation now provides a clear landmark facing Pacific Coast Highway.
Students can travel between TTC and LAC on the Viking Voyager shuttle during fall and spring semesters. The bus runs Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. at roughly 30-minute intervals, with a service break from 1 to 2 p.m.; it does not operate Fridays or during winter and summer intersessions. Current students and employees must show an LBCC ID. Students may also activate the Metro GoPass for included transit service. LBCC requires a valid parking permit in its lots, and active construction can affect where visitors enter or park. Check the live campus map and parking notice before a visit, especially if you are coming for ESL placement or a workshop.
TTC’s location and services make it a practical first stop for someone who wants to build English skills while exploring a career-focused program. A new student can apply to LBCC, use ESL advising to find an appropriate course, then meet with a career or academic counselor to confirm prerequisites, certificate units and the campus where instruction takes place. For admission, start with the college’s new-student checklist; for language support, contact the ESL Office; and use the TTC profile’s route button to plan the trip. See the TTC campus profile for facilities and directions, or the Liberal Arts Campus profile for LBCC’s broader academic and student-service center.
LBCC’s TTC site combines hands-on career programs in trades and transportation technology with the ESL office, free community learning, a library and student support.
