KeyMe Locksmiths: 24/7 locksmith services and smart key duplication in the United States

KeyMe Locksmiths presents itself as a national provider of locksmith services and smart key duplication that combines proprietary technology with a network of vetted mobile technicians. The company states that it handles key and lock needs for automotive, residential, and commercial customers, and that its service is available 24 hours a day in most major metropolitan areas across the country.

Its offering relies on two complementary channels: a network of more than 6,000 self-service kiosks installed inside retail stores and a team of mobile locksmiths who come to the customer's location. The company says it has served hundreds of thousands of people and maintains a 4.6 out of 5 rating based on 129,100 reviews, according to the data shown on its site.

Automotive services

The automotive area is one of its main lines of business. KeyMe handles vehicle lockouts and car key duplication, both in emergency situations and for scheduled requests. Among the services it details are emergency lockout assistance, key replacement and duplication, transponder key programming, ignition repair, and damaged key extraction.

The company notes that it duplicates car keys for up to 70% less than dealerships and that it covers more than 38,000 make, model, and year combinations, for both keyed ignitions and push-button start. It also offers remote fob programming and at-home service for keys that require a locksmith's assistance.

Residential and commercial services

On the residential side, KeyMe offers lock installation and repair, emergency lockout assistance, key cutting and duplication, rekeying services, and home security consultation.

For businesses, the company details services aimed at improving security and operational efficiency: access control systems, master key systems, lock installation and repair, emergency lockout assistance, high-security locks, RFID key card and electronic key replacement and duplication, and service for safes and vaults.

Self-service kiosks and key duplication

The self-service kiosk network allows customers to copy home, office, and car keys, as well as access cards and RFID fobs. According to the information on the site, the kiosks use machine learning to make accurate copies that take into account wear on the original key, with the goal that the copy works like a new key. More than 100 designs are available, covering residential, commercial, mailbox, padlock, and other specialty keys.

For vehicles, the kiosks copy car keys and offer fob programming for keyed and push-button ignitions. In the case of RFID cards and fobs, the company sells various formats that can be carried on a keychain, in a pocket, in a wallet, or on a lanyard, and mail orders are shipped in a sleeve that blocks RFID signals.

Coverage, payments, and service terms

KeyMe Locksmiths states that it operates in all 50 states and serves most major metropolitan areas coast to coast. The specific availability of services may vary depending on geographic location, time of day, and technician availability; in many metropolitan areas, locksmith service is available 24/7.

The company accepts all major credit and debit cards and does not accept cash. For verification of locksmith credentials, KeyMe states that it relies on a third party, though it notes that it is the customer's responsibility to verify that the professional has the necessary licensing, insurance, and experience for the requested work.
