About Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship — ADHE
Arkansas Workforce Challenge pays for specific workforce training, not the general cost of any degree. Listed fields include advanced manufacturing, construction trades, healthcare, information technology, and logistics, distribution and transportation. Training must lead to a credential, license, certificate or degree in a state-approved program. Before enrolling, verify the exact course name, provider and whether the hours are clock hours or college credits; that distinction changes the maximum award tier.
Applicants must have lived in Arkansas for at least six months, hold a high-school diploma or equivalency and be accepted into an eligible program at an approved institution. Students cannot receive Arkansas Academic Challenge at the same time. Apply in SAMS at least 30 days before the program starts, an easy deadline to miss when a course begins quickly. The grant is not automatically renewable: students may reapply after completing a program, and a limited repeat application may be available after an unsuccessful completion. Ask ADHE about a repeat or course change before relying on it.
The official scale separates program length and format: up to $1,500 for professional-skills programs of 80–179 clock hours; up to $3,000 for 180 hours or more, or programs of six credits or more. In all cases, the award cannot exceed standard tuition and fees. If a 120-hour course is advertised as eligible for “up to $3,000,” do not assume that amount applies: the current rule places that duration in the 80–179-hour category unless the institution confirms the program qualifies under another route. Get the cap, eligible charges, balance and disbursement timeline in writing.
A local August 2026 post about an ASU Three Rivers CNC course said training of up to 120 hours might be covered for as much as $3,000. ADHE’s official page, checked for this guide, lists $1,500 for the 80–179-hour tier. The post does not clarify which course classification applied; the difference makes written confirmation essential before paying or giving up another scholarship. Community posts and local advertisements can identify opportunities, but they do not replace the official award table.
Build a budget for course tuition, fees, licensing exam, tools, transport and supplies, and separate scholarship coverage from your out-of-pocket balance. Confirm residency, admission, field, 30-day lead time and number of hours in SAMS. ADHE lists 501-371-2000 and finaid@adhe.edu; ask for the program identifier and save the reply. If you plan a traditional associate degree, compare Academic Challenge instead and ask about FAFSA, renewal and credit requirements.
