About Arkansas Workforce Challenge Scholarship

Workforce Challenge funds job training, certificates, or credit-bearing study in Arkansas-designated high-demand fields: advanced manufacturing, construction, health care, information technology, and logistics, distribution, or transportation. For the 2026–27 structure, published caps are up to $1,500 for professional training of 80–179 clock hours and up to $3,000 for programs of 180 hours or more, or programs with at least six credits. Payment cannot exceed the institution’s standard tuition and fee structure.

Applicants must have a high-school diploma or equivalent, at least six months of Arkansas residency, no concurrent Academic Challenge award, and admission to an approved program. The official program list matters: a course in a high-demand field does not qualify by name alone if the institution or program is not approved. SAMS says students must apply at least 30 days before training begins; the award is one-time for a program, and reapplication rules differ depending on whether the course was completed.

As of this review, the state page lists an October 1–16, 2026 window for institutions to add or update courses taking effect in January 2027; that application is for providers, not students. Student applications go through SAMS and must precede the start of training. Before paying tuition, confirm with ADHE or the college that the exact program is currently approved and that you meet the 30-day filing rule. Also ask whether it can be combined with Workforce Pell without exceeding eligible charges.
