About Cameron University Presidential Leaders and University Scholars (PLUS)
Presidential Leaders and University Scholars (PLUS) is a selective program at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, combining college support with leadership education. The incoming-freshman application requires Oklahoma residency, an unweighted high-school GPA of at least 3.0, and a minimum ACT composite score of 20. Review also considers academics, leadership, involvement, and community service; meeting the numeric threshold alone does not guarantee selection.
The published deadline for 2027 entrants is February 1, 2027, at 11:59 p.m.; applications open in early January. Cameron asks applicants to seek admission and submit a high-school transcript, ACT/SAT scores, and any applicable college transcripts. The PLUS file also calls for a résumé of activities and honors, a typed one-page essay about choosing Cameron and contributing to campus, and three references: two high-school officials and another person familiar with the applicant’s leadership potential.
For scholars in good standing, the university lists a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per semester and a room waiver covering the student’s share of a double room in Shepler Center. Cameron also lists a $250 stipend in each fall and spring semester. These benefits are program-specific and should be compared with total attendance costs; they do not automatically cover transportation, books, fees, or every other expense.
Renewal requires commitments throughout college: full-time enrollment, at least 30 cumulative credits by the end of year one and 60 and 90 by the ends of the next two years, a 2.5 GPA in the first year and 3.0 from year two onward, and 16 advisor-approved community-service hours each semester. Scholars must also attend five campus events per semester and participate in leadership courses or meetings. Cameron says applicants are reviewed and interviewed and approximately 25 students are recommended; confirm the cycle’s schedule on PLUS before assembling documents. The program lists 580-581-2244 and lcothren@cameron.edu for questions.
