About Student Teaching Scholarship for High-Need Fields
This Indiana award is for the semester in which a student completes required student teaching and prepares to teach in a high-need field. The state defines those fields as special education and middle- or high-school mathematics or science. The scholarship may reach $4,000, with final amounts depending on appropriations and applicant volume; it does not automatically cover the full degree cost.
Applicants must be Indiana residents pursuing a first undergraduate degree, enrolled in a teacher-certification program, and student teaching at an authorized Indiana school. The commission requires FAFSA and a written agreement to apply for an Indiana teaching job; if hired, recipients must teach for at least three years. Students should understand what counts as qualifying employment and what happens after an interruption or change in specialization before accepting funds.
For spring 2027, the application opens October 1, 2026 and closes January 31, 2027 through ScholarTrack. The fall 2026 cycle closed September 30. Students must file FAFSA and a semester-specific application and confirm that their institution participates. Coordinate with the teacher-preparation director and financial-aid office to verify the student-teaching term, residency, and whether the award is credited directly to the college account.
