About New Garden Plants
Pete Van Der Kolk founded New Garden Plants in 2009 after working in plant growing and retail. Together with April, he runs a small family business in Hudsonville, Michigan, shipping potted plants to customers’ homes. The catalog combines newer varieties with established favorites and gives each plant group its own section.
Perennials form an extensive range, including coneflowers, hostas, astilbes, hellebores, irises, salvias, and other families. Browsing uses common and botanical names, a useful combination when someone recognizes a plant by appearance or by a different name. New arrivals and Pete’s Picks provide other routes through the selection.
Annuals offer another approach to seasonal color. Petunias, calibrachoas, geraniums, begonias, fuchsias, and verbenas are among the catalog groups. Foliage plants such as coleus and ornamental sweet potato vines allow flowers to be combined with leaves of different shapes and colors in pots, containers, and other garden arrangements.
Succulents include aloe, crassulas, echeverias, haworthias, sedums, and sempervivums. Shrubs and roses have a separate section, alongside hydrangeas, lilacs, viburnums, and other woody plants. The catalog’s divisions make it easier to move from buying smaller plants to selecting plants that provide structure in an outdoor space.
Vines and ornamental grasses complete the range. Clematis, honeysuckle, and passionflower are among the vines; fescues, miscanthus, carex, and other grasses form another collection. The shop offers potted plants, with a page explaining sizes and gardening guides supporting selection and growing.
Shipping serves the forty-eight contiguous U.S. states from mid-March through October, weather permitting. Customers request a shipping week when ordering, choosing a frost-free date in their destination area. Off-season orders may be held until spring; larger orders can be divided into packages arriving separately.
The business lists its contact address at 2645 40th Avenue, Hudsonville, MI 49426. Its satisfaction guarantee concerns plants’ condition on arrival and allows customers to report problems for adjustments. New Garden Plants offers a living-plant purchase in which variety, size, and delivery timing are connected: choosing the plant also means deciding when it will be ready to join the garden.
