Houston City College — Central College

Central is HCC’s original academic division and its main Midtown campus places students along Houston’s arts corridor, between downtown’s theaters and the Museum District. The Central Campus is not one building: the official directory lists the San Jacinto Memorial Building, Fine Arts Center, Heinen Theatre, Culinary Building, Business and Careers Center, library and other instructional sites. The South Campus gives Central students another location in south Houston, with its own workforce center and classrooms.

The academic range is unusually broad: Central houses the Honors College, arts and fashion programs, career and technology pathways, culinary education and transfer courses. Its student wellness center includes fitness equipment and group classes for currently enrolled students and staff. The college’s site also identifies tutoring, student services and a parking garage. A prospective student comparing locations should check whether the intended course belongs at Holman Street or South Campus; the two sites serve different parts of Houston and are not interchangeable.

Central Campus is at 1300 Holman Street, while South Campus is at 1990 Airport Boulevard. HCC publishes building-specific hours and contact details; current METRO routes should be checked for the address and travel time before a visit. The historic San Jacinto building has served several generations of Houston education and is central to HCC’s institutional story. For application, advising or payment questions, use the campus directory to find the responsible office rather than assuming every service operates at both locations.
