Under Canvas: Safari-Inspired Glamping Resorts in U.S. Natural Destinations
Under Canvas is an outdoor hospitality company that operates a network of luxury camps, described as "safari-inspired," in natural settings near national parks and iconic U.S. destinations. Its offering combines a connection with nature and high-end accommodations and resort services.
Brand History and Evolution
The company began operations in 2012 with a camp in West Yellowstone. Since then, it has grown to 13 safari-inspired Under Canvas locations and has expanded its presence with new brands. In 2023, it introduced ULUM, a custom resort brand that debuted with its first location in Moab, Utah. In 2025, it launched its Outdoor Collection, a group of distinctive properties with nature-based stays and experiences.

Under Canvas operates camps in a variety of U.S. natural destinations. The offering includes locations in West Yellowstone, North Yellowstone – Paradise Valley, and Glacier, Montana; Moab, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Lake Powell – Grand Staircase, Utah; Mount Rushmore, South Dakota; Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee; Grand Canyon, Arizona; Yosemite, California; Columbia River Gorge, Washington; and Acadia, Maine. Accommodations and Amenities
Under Canvas camps offer custom-designed canvas tents with amenities such as private bathrooms with hot-water showers, king-size beds, quality linens, and wood-burning stoves or fireplaces for cold nights. The main tents and their adjacent patios, furnished with West Elm pieces, serve as common spaces to enjoy meals from the café-style kitchen, connect with other guests, learn about the best local adventures, and purchase exclusive retail items.
Experiences and Programming
Under Canvas's offering includes daily programming ranging from yoga classes to live acoustic music and outdoor games. In the evening, guests take part in the tradition of roasting s'mores around the campfire while stargazing. In the morning, the day begins with the sounds of nature and breakfast before exploring the country's most iconic national parks, monuments, and outdoor destinations. The company also offers guided adventures and adventure add-ons, as well as on-site dining.

Under Canvas presents itself as a leader in upscale outdoor hospitality. Its camps have received awards from publications such as Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure, which have recognized them among the best resorts in the United States and the world.
