About Montana STEM/Healthcare Scholarship

Montana’s STEM/Healthcare Scholarship targets high-school students who will enter an eligible Montana campus directly in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, or health care. It is not an open scholarship for any student already in college: applicants must apply in their graduation year, begin the following fall, and pursue a first certificate, associate, or bachelor’s degree in an approved major.

State law provides $1,000 in year one, $1,500 in year two, $1,500 in year three, and $2,000 in year four, up to $6,000 total, subject to state funding. Entry requires Montana residency, at least a 3.25 high-school GPA, four years of college-prep math and three of science, admission to a listed campus, and at least 12 credits each semester. Renewal requires a 3.0 GPA and credit milestones; future funding depends on legislative appropriations.

The next application opens December 1, 2026 and closes March 15, 2027. The file includes an Award Montana application, an official transcript through the seventh semester, an admission letter, and counselor-signed math/science certification. Awards depend on final budget approval and may be prorated; a complete application does not guarantee funding. Work with your counselor in February and verify the major and campus before submitting.
