About Grand Canyon National Park Lodges
Lodging Inside Grand Canyon National Park
Grand Canyon National Park Lodges is an authorized National Park Service (NPS) concessioner that manages lodging inside Grand Canyon National Park on the South Rim, at nearly 7,000 feet elevation and surrounded by Ponderosa pine forest. The company presents itself as a lodging provider inside the park, not just nearby, with historic lodges such as El Tovar and Bright Angel among its most recognized properties.
Lodging on the Canyon Rim
The in-park lodging offering includes several properties located near the canyon edge:
- El Tovar Hotel, described as a historic lodge.
- Bright Angel Lodge & Cabins, with cabins along the rim.
- Kachina Lodge and Thunderbird Lodge, with modern amenities.
- Maswik Lodge, presented as a refuge among the pines.
- Phantom Ranch, at the bottom of the canyon, accessible through a lottery system and with availability that can be checked.
Lodging Outside the Park
The company also offers three properties located outside the park: The Grand Hotel, a 3-Diamond property one mile from the south entrance; Grand Canyon Hotel & Suites, in Tusayan (Arizona), minutes from the South Rim entrance and with free continental breakfast included; and Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel, in Williams (Arizona), which combines lodging with a historic train ride to the South Rim featuring vintage railcars, live entertainment and Wild West atmosphere.
Dining at the Canyon
The dining offering ranges from classic dining rooms to food stands. Establishments include El Tovar Dining Room, Harvey House Café, Arizona Steakhouse, Maswik Food Court, Maswik Pizza Pub, Hermit’s Rest Snack Bar, Phantom Ranch Canteen, food trucks, Bright Angel Fountain and Fred Harvey Tavern. The offering is described as sustainably sourced Arizona cuisine with a Southwest twist, in settings ranging from food trucks to five-star restaurants.
Tours and Activities
The company organizes and offers activities to complete your stay: mule rides, including the new Havasupai Gardens Mule Ride; guided bus tours to the most scenic viewpoints; the Grand Canyon Railway journey; and visits to the Historic Village. The history of mules at the Grand Canyon dates back more than a century, according to the company’s materials.
Services and Trip Planning
The site offers tools to organize your trip: lodging reservations with date selection, number of nights, adults and children, promotional and membership codes, and options to view or cancel reservations. It also includes information on reservation policies, WiFi, offers, groups, alerts, lost and found, brochures and downloads, frequently asked questions, hours of operation and park location. The company notes that holders of the Interagency Access Pass or Senior Pass can receive a 50% discount off standard rates at Bridge Bay, Canyon, Grant and Madison Campgrounds; the discount is not valid at Fishing Bridge RV Park or with the Interagency Annual Pass, and the pass must be shown at check-in.
Park Context
Grand Canyon National Park, founded in 1919, is one of the oldest national parks in the United States and is home to a one-mile-deep canyon carved by the Colorado River, considered one of the seven wonders of the world. The South Rim sits at nearly 7,000 feet elevation, with temperatures that can be 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the desert. The park is in northern Arizona, about 3.5 hours from Phoenix or Las Vegas.
