About Flint Promise Scholarship Program
Flint Promise is tied to the City of Flint, not the entire county. The foundation identifies potential recipients as graduates of one of 11 high schools located in the city, or people earning a GED there, who reside in Flint at graduation. Partners include Mott Community College, Kettering University, and the University of Michigan–Flint; combinations and additional rules vary by partner.
The scholarship works as last-dollar aid: need-based grants such as Pell are applied first, and the program may then cover the remaining tuition-and-fee balance. Its page says loans are not counted among the grants that reduce the gap. It does not publish one universal dollar award because the balance depends on the college, cost, and each student’s grants.
Gather proof of residence, diploma or GED, and school records, and submit FAFSA so the college can calculate grants; the foundation asks applicants to complete this step. Then contact the partner you choose about admission, enrollment load, deadlines, and annual documents. UM–Flint publishes campus-specific requirements; do not automatically apply them to Mott or Kettering.
The program also offers success coaches and connections to community resources for barriers such as transportation, child care, food, and housing. The scholarship is not unconditional payment: the amount is recalculated against grant aid, and the sources reviewed do not provide one detailed calendar for every partner. Confirm the open cycle, minimum credits, and excluded expenses in writing before assuming full coverage.
