Online university for adults, with bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs in business, health, education, technology, nursing, psychology, and social work.

About Capella University

Capella University offers online higher education for adults who want to continue their studies while balancing school, work, and other responsibilities. Its catalog includes bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, as well as certificates, in business, health, education, technology, nursing, psychology, and social work. The institution is part of Strategic Education, Inc., which operates other educational organizations and services.

The catalog lets prospective students browse by degree level and field. Bachelor’s offerings include business, health care administration, computer science, information technology, nursing, psychology, and social work. Graduate programs extend into business administration and human resources, counseling and therapy, education, public health, analytics, cybersecurity, advanced nursing, psychology, and social work. Doctoral and professional degrees span business, education, health, technology, nursing, and psychology.

The university offers two online formats: GuidedPath and FlexPath. GuidedPath organizes learning into courses with a schedule and deadlines; FlexPath uses competency-based assessment so students can progress by demonstrating mastery of course material. Not every program offers both formats; availability depends on the degree and specialization. The difference helps prospective students compare how academic work is structured before applying.

The model connects theory with professional practice. Capella says some faculty members also work in their fields and that coursework is designed to apply knowledge in workplace settings. To support students, it offers enrollment specialists, academic advisors, coaches, and career services. Transfer credit and recognition of prior learning may be options for some students, depending on program requirements.

The catalog includes professional and academic degree paths. Students can compare, for example, undergraduate and graduate nursing, clinical and educational psychology, health care administration, education, analytics, or information technology. The university also offers advanced professional programs and doctoral degrees in selected fields. Each degree and specialization has its own catalog description, so the broad field name alone does not explain requirements or available formats.

Capella holds institutional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission, a U.S.-recognized accreditor of higher education institutions. It also lists specialized accreditations for certain programs; these do not automatically apply across the catalog. Its website notes, for example, that FlexPath for project management specializations is not included in the PMI-GAC program accreditation.

The student experience is managed primarily online through information requests, admissions guidance, the catalog, and student support. Institutional documents identify a Minneapolis mailing address, but the academic offering is online and that address is not presented as a public-facing campus. When comparing options, it helps to distinguish the career field, degree level, and learning format a specific program offers.
