About Colorado Student Grant — CDHE

The Colorado Student Grant (CSG) is need-based state aid that appears in an offer from certain colleges; it is not a uniform check requested from the state office in Denver. CDHE says state aid is allocated to participating institutions and the campus handles individual review. A statewide overview therefore cannot replace a college’s financial-aid policy: sector, calculated need, available funding and the date a file becomes complete can all affect the result.

Start with the FAFSA if you can receive federal aid. Students who are not eligible for FAFSA can review CASFA, Colorado’s state financial-aid application. CDHE says to complete one application per year, not both. CASFA lets students without federal-aid access seek state or institutional review; it does not automatically award a scholarship or confer Pell eligibility. The system shares information with colleges the student lists, and each school determines which aid it can offer.

Open each college portal and check its task list: FAFSA or CASFA receipt, resident tuition status, admission, verification and satisfactory progress. CU Boulder’s table shows a campus-specific need threshold for its Colorado Student Grant; that figure is not a universal rule for every school. The state page does not give one common student deadline, so ask your college in writing for its priority date and the policy for first-year, transfer and part-time students.

A UCCS thread from August 2026 shows a recurring question: students who believed they qualified asked why no grant appeared, while others described different aid amounts. The discussion does not establish each person’s eligibility or a statewide decision. Treat it as a prompt to request a campus breakdown: Was CSG reviewed? Are documents missing? Is the figure estimated or approved? Did funding affect the offer? Do not include unconfirmed grant aid in your payment plan.

Compare the complete offer, not just the grant name. Separate scholarships and grants from loans, work-study and remaining balances; add tuition, fees, books, housing, food and transportation. Ask which credits count and what progress is needed for renewal. CDHE provides statewide guidance from Denver but directs students to the institution handling their file. For 2027–28, read the new-year instructions before carrying forward a 2026–27 deadline or income limit.
