About Limelight Hotels

Limelight Hotels, mountain hospitality in the western United States

Limelight Hotels is a hotel chain integrated into Aspen Skiing Company, LLC (which operates as Aspen Hospitality). Its offering is built around mountain destinations and cities with strong ties to nature, with properties in Denver, Aspen, Snowmass and Ketchum, plus the openings of Mammoth and Boulder, both now operational. The company plans a new addition in Charleston for 2028.

Six destinations with their own character

Each hotel is presented in connection with its immediate surroundings. Limelight Denver sits next to Union Station and a short distance from Ball Arena and Coors Field, in an urban setting with local breweries, an art scene and live music. Limelight Aspen is within walking distance of Aspen Mountain and the Silver Queen Gondola, with access to skiing, hiking and galleries, and features the Limelight Lounge and hot tubs. Limelight Ketchum serves as a base for Sun Valley, with 400 miles of singletrack for biking, paddleboarding on Redfish Lake, heli- and Nordic skiing, and stargazing in the country's first Dark Sky Reserve. Limelight Snowmass is located in an area with more than 3,000 skiable acres and more than 50 miles of singletrack, with ski-in/ski-out access from the Elk Camp Gondola, wildflower routes and Lost Forest. Limelight Mammoth Hotel & Residences is just steps from The Village and near Yosemite, high-alpine lakes and trail networks. Limelight Boulder is presented as a midpoint between college life and mountain adventure, with Pearl Street, Boulder Creek and more than 300 miles of trails.

The site lists several promotions in effect at the time of the analysis. The Limelight Member Rate requires registration or login and offers exclusive terms for those who join the Limelight community. In Mammoth there is an early booking rate with a minimum of 14 days in advance and savings of up to 15% on Deluxe Rooms or higher, with prepayment and no refund. In Boulder, a rate is offered for Colorado residents with up to 20% off the room rate.

Organized activities

The chain markets experiences under the heading Adventures, including the Aspen Audi Experience, Snowmass Trails & Tales, stargazing in the Ketchum Dark Sky Reserve, fly fishing in Aspen, the Denver Audi Experience and the Snowmass Climbing Wall. Each hotel's team is presented as support for organizing days out with local recommendations.

Brand origin and history

The company traces its origin to an Aspen venue called The Ski and Spur Bar, frequented by skiers in the context of the American West. In the 1950s it was renamed The Limelite and operated as a dinner theater and nightclub, run by folk singer Glenn Yarbrough, who attracted artists such as Judy Collins and the Smothers Brothers. In 1962 Yarbrough sold the business to the Paas family. Decades later the venue evolved into The Limelite Lodge, which according to the company itself was the first in Aspen to install televisions, telephones, air conditioning and refrigerators, and the first to admit pets. In 2008 the Paas family rebuilt the building as a 126-room hotel, reopened as Limelight Lodge. Two years later Aspen One acquired the property and renamed it Limelight Hotel, the origin of today's chain.

Local ties, art and design

The company describes its staff as residents of the communities where it operates and offers personalized recommendations on routes, restaurants and local purveyors. It also maintains the Caring for Community Funds, programs aimed at supporting local initiatives. In the area of art and design, each hotel collaborates with local art leaders to commission and display works that reflect both local creators and international perspectives, with examples ranging from Denver's urban context to the nature of Ketchum.

Services for events and stays

The chain's services include the organization of meetings and events, as well as vacation accommodation and ski-related stays. Booking is handled through its website and a reservations phone line, and it offers a newsletter about offers and events at its various properties.
