About Community College of Denver — Auraria Campus
Auraria is Community College of Denver's principal teaching site, at 1111 W Colfax Avenue on the west side of downtown. The address belongs to a 150-acre higher-education campus shared with Metropolitan State University of Denver and the University of Colorado Denver. That arrangement gives CCD students access to common places such as Auraria Library, the Tivoli Student Union, health services and recreation facilities; the college advises students to check the class schedule because several institutions use the same campus buildings.
The college's history began in 1967, when the Colorado legislature created CCD. Classes started in North Denver, moved near the Civic Center into a renovated automobile showroom, and then shifted to Auraria in 1975. The grounds occupy the historic site of the 1858 settlement of Auraria, and Emmanuel Gallery preserves a landmark from that earlier city. For a prospective student, the campus is both a working classroom district and a downtown environment with public institutions, cultural venues and sports facilities nearby.
Two RTD light-rail stations serve Auraria, and city bus routes stop on or near the campus. CCD says a student with a valid campus ID and an on-campus class schedule can obtain the RTD CollegePass through the Tivoli Student Union or by registering in the MyRide app. Drivers can choose among short-term meters, surface lots and garages; the campus also lists an accessibility shuttle and motorist-assistance services. Check the campus map and current parking information before setting out, since access and rates depend on the lot and time.
CCD's main campus brings together general education, transfer preparation, advising and student services with classes in areas such as arts, business, education, health, public safety and science. The college is part of Colorado's community-college system and publishes more than 100 program pathways across its network. Some credentials require admission steps beyond the general open-access application, so the catalog and the program department—not a campus-wide overview—are the right place to check prerequisites and where a particular course meets.
A first visit is easiest to plan with the building name as well as the college address: Auraria contains shared classrooms, offices and service points. CCD publishes campus maps, visitor directions, parking information and transit alerts, and its admissions team can arrange campus tours. Before travelling for advising or financial aid, confirm the office and appointment details so the trip ends at the right building rather than at the general campus entrance.
