About Schreiber Scholarship — Chicago Scholars
The Schreiber Scholarship was developed by Chicago Scholars to help program participants who still face a financial gap in paying for college. That distinction is essential: it is not an open award for any student in Chicago. Applicants must already be part of Chicago Scholars and meet the additional published requirements.
The intended applicant is a graduating high-school senior pursuing a full-time bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year U.S. institution. The student must demonstrate financial need, be eligible for a Pell Grant, and have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA. Recipients are expected to remain connected to the community through at least two annual check-ins with Chicago Scholars staff and continued engagement with programming and opportunities as appropriate.
The scholarship may provide up to $5,000 per year for as many as four years, but the amount is recalculated annually based on the documented funding gap. The maximum is not an automatic award and should not be added to a college aid offer without confirmation. Students should ask their financial-aid office how to report the scholarship and whether it changes other need-based assistance.
The published deadline for the 2026 edition was June 7, 2026, and has passed. Chicago Scholars has not yet announced the next application date, so current participants should watch their portal and program communications. The organization lists this among scholarships exclusive to its Scholars and notes that some opportunities may require an internal pre-application.
Chicago Scholars lists scholarships@chicagoscholars.org and 312-784-3300; its office is at 141 West Jackson Boulevard, Suite 1521, Chicago, Illinois 60604. To determine whether an outstanding balance qualifies as a funding gap and what proof is required, begin with the program adviser, gather the college aid letter, and confirm the applicable cycle in the portal.
