About Hathaway Scholarship
Wyoming Hathaway rewards eligible state graduates through four levels—Honors, Performance, Opportunity, and Provisional—based on high-school curriculum, grades, and standardized testing. A law signed in February 2026 increased awards beginning Fall 2026: at 12 credits, semester amounts are $2,360, $1,770, and $1,180 for the listed levels; an additional need-based Hathaway grant may reach $2,120 for levels other than Honors under the state formula.
Applicants must meet state residency rules, graduate from a Wyoming high school, complete the Hathaway Success Curriculum, and initiate the award within four years of graduation; homeschool graduates follow an age rule. ACT or SAT scores remain necessary to determine an award level, although ACT superscores may be accepted. Funds may be used at the University of Wyoming or state community colleges, not only in Laramie. University admission and Hathaway eligibility are related but separate decisions.
The application is reviewed with admission and student records; at UW, students must also complete the Hathaway verification form listed in WyoRecords. Renewal depends on award level and requires GPA, credits, and continuous enrollment: the portal distinguishes a 2.5 minimum for Honors/Performance and 2.25 for lower levels. FAFSA is needed to calculate the need-based portion. Because amounts are prorated below 12 credits and Provisional has special rules, request a campus estimate before budgeting.
