The Cooper, a luxury waterfront hotel on the Charleston peninsula

The Cooper is a luxury hotel located on the Charleston waterfront, South Carolina, and is presented as the only establishment of its kind on the Charleston peninsula. The six-story, 191-room project is scheduled to open in spring 2026. Its name refers to the Cooper River, which is visible from the building.

The hotel is described as a modern expression of authentic Charleston and seeks to connect guests, residents, and visitors with the city's downtown and harbor. Its design is inspired by the natural surroundings of the Lowcountry region, with its winding rivers, and by the elegance of Charleston's historic homes.

Accommodations and room categories

The accommodations are organized into rooms, suites, and signature suites. The rooms are presented as airy, light-filled spaces with harbor or city views. The suites offer greater spaciousness, and the signature suites each feature a private balcony and standout views.

Dining

The hotel brings together four dining concepts. The signature restaurant is The Crossing. The CurrentBurger concept focuses on comfort classics. Cooper Coffee & Wine covers service from morning to night, and Bar Marti offers cocktails with a view.

Wellness, spa, and experiences

The project includes a spa presented as the first of its kind, as well as fitness spaces and a rooftop infinity pool. The experiences offering includes water activities, city tours, and access to standout Charleston destinations. A private marina completes the waterfront offering.

Events and celebrations

The hotel has a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces for celebrations and events, in a waterfront setting.

Design and project team

The architectural design is by McMillan Pazdan Smith; landscape architecture by Rees Roberts + Partners and DesignWorks; and interiors by Champalimaud Design. The decor incorporates references to sweetgrass basketry, a local tradition.

Group and access to other destinations

The Cooper is part of Beemok Hospitality Collection. Through a team of personal concierges, guests can access other destinations within the group, such as The Charleston Place hotel, Credit One Stadium, the historic Riviera Theater, the Italian restaurant Sorelle, and the green space American Gardens.
