WV Invests Grant

WV Invests is a last-dollar grant for residents pursuing certificates or associate degrees in approved high-demand programs at participating public colleges. Pell, other grants, scholarships, and waivers are applied first; the program then covers eligible remaining tuition and approved fees, not every college expense. This guide explains what it pays, what remains, and the obligation attached to the award.

About WV Invests Grant

WV Invests is a last-dollar grant for residents pursuing certificates or associate degrees in approved high-demand programs at participating public colleges. Pell, other grants, scholarships, and waivers are applied first; the program then covers eligible remaining tuition and approved fees, not every college expense. This guide explains what it pays, what remains, and the obligation attached to the award.

The administrator requires at least twelve months of West Virginia residency before applying, citizenship or federal-aid eligibility, and at least half-time enrollment in an approved program. The program’s eligible-field list—not merely a broad career label—controls coverage; prerequisite courses outside the approved program may not qualify. Students must renew each year by filing a new FAFSA and state application.

Along with maintaining academic progress, recipients must complete two hours of approved community service during each funded term. Failing to complete or document those hours can cancel that term’s award. Check the campus calendar at the start of classes: the requirement applies separately to each funded term and is not met with volunteering completed before the award period.

The residency obligation begins after a recipient graduates or drops below the required enrollment: there is a six-month grace period, followed by two continuous years living in West Virginia. Moving out of state can convert the grant into debt with interest and fees. The preferred date for 2026–27 was April 15, but later applications may be accepted on a rolling basis; the official site advises applying at least two weeks before the term.

Ask the financial-aid office for a written term-by-term estimate separating tuition, fees, housing, books, and other costs. Keep the award letter, records, and any service agreement. If your studies, residence, or course load change, contact the administrator before that decision affects your aid.
