About Silver State Opportunity Grant (SSOG)

SSOG is a Nevada need-based grant for residents pursuing a degree or certificate at selected community or state colleges in the Nevada System of Higher Education. The calculation considers cost of attendance, Student Aid Index, and certain federal grants; current guidance lists up to $5,500 a year for students who meet the applicable load and rules. It is not guaranteed: funds are limited, and the system prioritizes greater need and higher enrollment intensity.

Published requirements include at least 12 credits that count toward the program, Nevada residency for tuition purposes, satisfactory academic progress, and no prior bachelor’s degree. Students complete FAFSA and need an SAI of 8,500 or lower, along with the program’s college-ready standard in English and math through coursework, placement, or approved remediation. Current eligible institutions are College of Southern Nevada, Great Basin College, Nevada State University, Truckee Meadows Community College, and Western Nevada College.

The school calculates the award after subtracting the student contribution and certain federal aid, so two students with similar tuition can receive different amounts. NSHE lists a prorated annual ceiling for 12 credits per term below the maximum for 15 credits; check the current table when applying. Complete FAFSA early and contact the campus office to ask about an alternative application if legally required, missing documents, and whether funds remain for the year.
