Mercier Orchards

Mercier Orchards connects the Blue Ridge visit with working agriculture. Founded by Bill and Adele Mercier in 1943, it is now described as a fourth-generation family and veteran-operated orchard. Its market and bakery offer one kind of visit, while seasonal field access provides another; buying an apple pie does not require assuming that fruit picking is available every day.

The orchard grows strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and more than forty apple varieties. The current pick-your-own notice lists Gold Rush Crimson and Arkansas Black apples, with field hours of 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Monday–Thursday and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Friday–Sunday. This is a dated crop notice, subject to fruit availability and weather, rather than a permanent harvest promise.

Pick-your-own admission is purchased on site and offered first come, first served while fruit remains. Bad weather can suspend field visits and tractor tours. Scenic tractor tours are typically offered when ripe fruit is unavailable for picking, so the two experiences should not be promised simultaneously without checking the calendar.

The market’s longer hours are 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday–Thursday and until 6 p.m. Friday–Sunday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Easter are closure dates. Pets are excluded from orchard and market; the operator separately describes service-dog access to the market. Bakery products and the tasting room can make a visit worthwhile when the field program is unavailable, but each activity retains its own conditions.
