After completing his dental training, he joined the United States Navy Dental Corps as an officer, where his interest in endodontics developed while serving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (South Carolina) and Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay (Hawaii). After completing his naval service, he completed his specialty training at the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and returned to private practice in the Twin Cities in 1997.

Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Minnesota Association of Endodontists, the Minnesota Dental Association, and the Minneapolis District Dental Society. The clinic also includes Dr. Ryan Trautmann.
