About Birmingham Promise Scholarship — ayuda local para graduados de Birmingham City Schools

Birmingham Promise can reduce tuition for a Birmingham City Schools graduate, but it does not mean that college has no total cost. It is last-dollar aid: Pell and other scholarships are applied first, and Birmingham Promise covers remaining tuition and mandatory fees under programme rules. The application page describes up to eight consecutive fall and spring semesters; housing, meals, parking, books, laptops, non-credit courses, and a second degree are excluded.

The class-of-2027 application opened October 1, 2026. Deadlines differ by path: students planning to attend a four-year university must apply by February 1, 2027; applicants to a two-year college have until May 1, 2027. The scholarship link is distributed through a Birmingham City Schools student email account. Ask your school coach or counsellor if it is missing; do not send financial information to an unofficial address.

The programme lists seven eligible high schools: Ramsay, Parker, Jackson-Olin, G.W. Carver, Huffman, Wenonah, and Woodlawn. Applicants must graduate from Birmingham City Schools and complete FAFSA; the call asks students to save the FAFSA Submission Summary. New scholars must also attend an orientation with a parent or guardian. The college list is updated and may include campuses families do not expect; check the programme’s Alabama College Guide before accepting an offer.

To estimate the benefit, download your FAFSA Submission Summary, compare Pell and institutional scholarships with tuition and mandatory fees, and ask which charges remain under the last-dollar calculation. Funds go to the institution after its course-adjustment period; this is not immediate cash for rent or books. The FAQ says scholars submit a renewal application each year and that skipping a semester may require an appeal to regain scholar status.

Summer has a narrow rule: the FAQ says a course is covered only if it is not offered in fall or spring and is required for the degree programme. That does not make every summer class eligible. Students who complete the process may also receive Student Success Coaching, which is navigation and planning support, not extra money posted to tuition.
