About APF Community Scholarship Program
The APF Community Scholarship is an Alabama Power Foundation award for high-school seniors who live in counties served by Alabama Power and plan to continue into college or vocational study. The current application is open: it offers a one-time $2,500 award and expects to grant up to 60 scholarships. Funds are limited to qualified education expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and required supplies or equipment; an award may be adjusted if it exceeds those costs.
The published deadline is December 7, 2026, at 3 p.m. Central Time. Applicants must be high-school seniors, reside in an eligible county within Alabama Power’s service territory, plan full-time undergraduate enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school, and have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Children of Alabama Power Company or Alabama Power Foundation employees are excluded.
Alabama residency alone is not enough: the program specifically excludes Colbert, DeKalb, Jackson, Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison, Morgan, and Pike counties from the listed service territory. Applicants must upload a current, complete transcript; grade reports are not accepted. If SAT or ACT scores are not shown on the transcript and the student wants them considered, score reports must be uploaded separately.
Selection considers academic performance, school and community leadership, work experience, education and career goals, and unusual personal or family circumstances. The current page also requires demonstrated financial need; meeting the GPA minimum does not guarantee an award. Scholarship America says all applicants will be notified by email in February and scholarship payments are processed in early August.
Applications are handled online. Use a personal email account that will remain accessible after graduation, verify that the transcript and other required materials finished uploading before the deadline, and save the submission confirmation. If you are unsure whether your county or planned enrollment qualifies, check the official program listing or contact Scholarship America before submitting.
