History and Evolution

The history of Vortex Optics goes back to 1986, when Dan and Margie Hamilton moved with their sons to Madison, Wisconsin, to start a Wild Birds Unlimited business after retiring from dentistry. In 2002, the Vortex brand first hit the market, introducing the VIP warranty. In 2018, the company moved its headquarters to Barneveld, Wisconsin, and expanded its apparel line. In 2019, it opened Vortex Edge. In 2021, it opened its own preschool, Little Buffalos. In 2022, Vortex won the U.S. Army contract for the N.G.S.W. (Next Generation Squad Weapon) program.
