About Workforce Development Sequence Scholarship
This Maryland scholarship is for students taking an approved noncredit workforce sequence at a participating community college. The sequence may lead to a registered apprenticeship, employment, licensure, certification, or skill enhancement; it is not a grant for any short course. The published maximum is $2,000 annually and is limited to tuition, mandatory fees, and related attendance costs not already covered by another state grant or an employer.
Eligible applicants include Maryland residents, Maryland high-school graduates, and certain active-duty service members stationed, residing, or domiciled in the state. The college must confirm that the sequence is approved and may set additional criteria, such as prioritizing local workforce needs or limiting campus funds. Administration is decentralized: the community college’s financial-aid office is the application entry point, rather than a single statewide student form at MHEC.
Before enrolling, ask whether your sequence is on the current list, the campus’s internal deadline, which expenses qualify, and whether funds remain. MHEC publishes a maximum but not a fixed student award or automatic approval. When you also receive state aid or employer payment, combined assistance cannot exceed eligible costs. Request a written estimate and keep the financial-aid office’s response so you do not plan around money that has not yet been approved.
