Soar Mill Seeds

Soar Mill Seeds, wild bird and poultry food

Soar Mill Seeds is a British online shop specialising in wild bird and poultry food, feeders and garden accessories. The company presents itself as a third-generation independent family business: the Bamford family has been producing food for birds and animals for over a hundred years, according to its own historical account, which dates back to the 1930s, when grandfather Robert Bamford loaned agricultural equipment to local farmers and helped with harvest work. The firm maintains close links with the local farming community and states that, wherever possible, it sources ingredients from growers in its local area, which also helps reduce its carbon footprint.

Bird food range

The wild bird food selection includes seed mixes, straight seeds, fat balls, mealworms and suet foods. Featured products include mixes such as Finch & Sparrow Mix, Island Harvest, Softbill Supreme, Premium Mix, Feeder Mix, Robin & Small Bird Mix and Winter Plus, available in various weight formats and with a subscription option at 15% off. The shop also offers poultry feed, with feeds, feeders and drinkers, health supplements and bedding, as well as aviary mixes and specific foods for budgies, canaries, cockatiels, parakeets, parrots and quail.

Feeders, accessories and garden

The feeder range covers seed, peanut, suet, ground, feeding station, dome, window, niger seed and Squirrel Buster feeders, along with feeder accessories. For the garden it sells bird baths, bird tables and trays, nest boxes and hygiene and storage items. The garden section is completed with products the company describes as a blend of style, comfort and practicality for the home and outdoors.

Pets and other wildlife

In addition to bird food, the shop sells food for dogs, rabbits and small animals, pond fish, hedgehogs and pet birds. It also includes cat and pest deterrents, such as the CatWatch ultrasonic cat deterrent and the PESTcontroller indoor mouse deterrent, and products from the Green Protect line. In the gifts and personal care section there are honey, hand and body creams, soaps, cards, doormats and items from the Meg Hawkins brand.

Commitment to wildlife and the environment

The company declares a personal interest in wildlife issues and states that it actively supports bird welfare both locally and nationally. It notes that it has been a business ally of the British Trust for Ornithology for years, an organisation that funds bird conservation projects in the UK and abroad. It also states that its products are sustainably sourced and that it offers free UK delivery.

Customer service and shopping experience

The shop has a customer service team that responds to enquiries by form or by phone. According to the Google testimonials reproduced on its own website, customers highlight the quality of the products, the speed of response and next-day delivery for orders placed before 14:00. The company operates as R and E Bamford Limited and maintains a responsible bird feeding guide throughout the year.
