Green Retreats
A British family-run garden building company offering offices, studios, gyms, and residential annexes, with showrooms in Westcott and Twickenham.
About Green Retreats
Green Retreats works with a question that changes from one home to another: what would an extra room be used for? Since 2005, this British family-run company has designed and manufactured garden buildings for working, exercising, creative pursuits, or leisure in a space separate from the house. In-house manufacturing is central to its offering. The building is conceived as an addition to everyday life at home, with ranges that differ in form, materials, and level of finish.
B-Range is its most economical line, built around function and straightforward construction. G-Range is the classic collection, with a focus on natural materials and modern composites. A-Range uses pitched roofs and offers greater height, while X1 targets the luxury end of the market. These families make it possible to read the catalog through architectural characteristics, rather than as a collection of similar photographs. The choice concerns the room's volume and presence in the garden, as well as its interior fittings.
Home offices sit alongside photography studios, spaces for a home business, gyms, and yoga rooms. The catalog also presents garden cinemas, game rooms, home bars, and spaces for golf simulators. Outdoor classrooms and commercial buildings extend the offering beyond residential use. These are suggested applications for the buildings, with configurations adapted to the project; naming a use does not make every model the same kind of room or mean that all its accessories are included.
The Annex is a separate line: small homes designed for permanent residence, which the company presents as having building regulations approval. That distinction matters when comparing a residential annex with an office or leisure room. Green Retreats' general process includes measuring, assessing access to the property, and design advice. The company also offers help with planning applications when a project requires one, along with options and upgrades to personalize the building.
Before construction, customers can explore a project with an online visualizer that allows them to choose a style, size, and finishes and obtain an estimate. Photo galleries, videos, and customer case studies show specific uses, such as an interior design studio in a London garden or a gym for a personal training business. These examples bring the offering down to a domestic scale: they describe how a separate room can fit into a property and acquire an everyday function, beyond its exterior appearance.
In-person visits take place in two locations: Westcott in Buckinghamshire and Twickenham in the London area. The Westcott showroom combines indoor displays with an outdoor extension; both centers allow visitors to see the buildings and compare their features. Kevin McCloud serves as the brand's ambassador. His involvement is part of the company's marketing story, while decisions about layouts and finishes draw on the models, samples, and design service.
The company publishes an environmental policy describing solar energy use, FSC-certified timber, and waste management through recycling or energy recovery. It also states that it plants five trees for each one used. These are commitments communicated by the company itself, alongside an advertised twelve-year guarantee for its garden buildings. Taken together, Green Retreats presents a process that runs from defining the new room's purpose to designing, manufacturing, and installing it, with showrooms where customers can see the product before adding it to their home.
