Newmarket Holidays began in March 1983 as Newmarket Promotions Limited, with two people working from a South London apartment. Its first trip departed for Paris that May. The company later developed relationships with newspapers and magazines offering trips to readers, a history that helps explain the prominence of cultural itineraries and events in its catalog.

Headquarters moved to Wallington, Surrey, in 2015. Online trip sales began in 2007 and were combined with travel agents and other partners. Events retain their own presence: Edinburgh Tattoo, André Rieu concerts, and Wimbledon trips. The company began its Wimbledon breaks in 1994.
