About Knowledgeablee Instructor Training (ADI KIT)

Driving instructor training in the UK

Knowledgeablee Instructor Training, operating under the ADI KIT brand, is a British company dedicated to the professional development of driving instructors. Its work focuses on continuing professional development (CPD), face-to-face workshops and in-car training aimed at both qualified instructors (ADIs) and those preparing to qualify (PDIs). The company was founded in 2022 by Mick Knowles and Lee Jowett, who together bring more than thirty years of experience in instruction and instructor development.

Preparation for Part 3 and the Standards Check

A central part of its offering is its preparation programmes for the Part 3 test and the Standards Check. Its courses include the CCL & Standards Check face-to-face workshop, the Part 3 Rescue programme and the Skills For Coaching online workshop, which runs over four weeks. It also delivers the Before the Fault workshop, focusing on risk management, adaptation and directions during Part 3.

Training formats

The company structures its offering into four routes to suit different ways of learning:

  • Online courses: designed to let learners progress at their own pace and apply what they learn directly in lessons, with an approach that prioritises reflection over simply delivering information.
  • Face-to-face workshops: practical, face-to-face development for PDIs and ADIs in various locations across the UK, with discussion applied to real teaching situations.
  • In-car training: one-to-one coaching in the vehicle, alongside a learner, to work on the skills where they really matter.
  • Video hub: hundreds of videos on coaching, client-centred learning, Part 3 and the Standards Check.

Train the Trainer programme and other workshops

The catalogue includes the Train the Trainer workshop, which runs over two days, as well as pre-recorded online training. The company regularly publishes new workshop dates with dates, locations and prices, including sessions in Paisley, Motherwell, Manchester, Howden and Goole, as well as online workshops. Prices for the advertised face-to-face workshops range from £25 to £150, while Train the Trainer is priced at £500.

Resources and publications

Alongside its training, ADI KIT sells practical tools, reflective logs and eBooks for ADIs and PDIs. Available materials include the PDI P3 Guide, the New ADI Starter Guide, KIT Reflect and Understanding Your Learner. The company also publishes KIT Mag, a monthly publication on instructor development and the foundations of its training method.

History and awards

The company was set up after the DVSA's decision to stop examining the B+E licence in September 2021, which meant Mick Knowles lost a significant part of his work. Both founders, already registered as ORDIT and with experience as trainers at Tri-Coaching Partnership, agreed on the project in October 2021 and set the launch for the end of April 2022. The first issue of KIT Mag was published that same month and the first Client Centred Learning and Standards Check workshop was held in Pontefract on 10 June 2022. Lee qualified as an ADI in 2010 and Mick in 2011; both hold the BTEC Level 4 in Coaching for Driver Development. The company has received the Community of the Year and Content Creator of the Year awards at the GoRoadie Awards 2025 and 2026, Silver for Training Provider of the Year at the Intelligent Instructor Awards 2025, the CPD Provider of the Year award at the GoRoadie Awards 2022 and a Highly Commended mention in the same category in 2025.

Training approach

The company's method starts by helping the instructor understand why a fault occurs, not just identify it, so that they can support the learner rather than correct them. Its directors say the training is designed to be reflected on and applied in real lessons, and they link instructors' professional development to improved road safety. The company has brand ambassadors who represent KIT in different parts of the country and takes part in national conferences, local associations and online sessions for various organisations.
