Roots Plants

Roots Plants, online nursery for British-grown plants

Roots Plants is an online nursery that sells plants grown by UK growers and delivers them directly to the customer's garden. The company presents itself as a showcase for some of the country's best nurseries and organises its catalogue by major plant families, with specialist delivery and a money-back guarantee if the plant does not arrive in good condition.

Ornamental and fruit trees

The tree catalogue is divided into ornamental and fruit trees. Ornamental trees include acers, birches, cherry blossom trees, crabapples, magnolias, rowans and willows, as well as themed selections such as autumn colour trees, evergreens, flowering trees, patio trees, mature trees, native trees, weeping trees or trees for small gardens. Fruit trees include apples, apricots, cherries, peaches, pears, plums and nuts, alongside popular varieties such as the 'Victoria' plum, the 'Conference' pear or the patio lemon tree.

Climbers, soft fruit and trained fruit trees

The climbers section includes clematis, wisteria, jasmine, bougainvillea, climbing roses, honeysuckle, passion flowers and sweet peas, with specific collections such as Raymond Evison clematis, fragrant varieties, climbers for pots, shade-loving climbers or year-round flowering climbers. Soft fruit includes blackberries, blueberries, currants, gooseberries, grapes, raspberries, rhubarb and strawberries. There are also trained fruit trees in cordon, espalier or fan form, duo/family, dwarf or patio and stepover types.

Shrubs, roses and pond plants

The shrubs section brings together lavenders, palms, hydrangeas, lilacs, camellias, bamboos, philadelphus and buddlejas, with roses classified as shrub roses, floribunda, hybrid tea, ground cover, patio, climbing and rambling. For ponds, ferns, grasses, irises, rushes, water hawthorn and water lilies are offered, as well as collections such as complete pond filler, pond in a pot, best water lilies or plants for wildlife ponds.

Gifts, advice and commitment to growers

The shop includes gift plants for birthdays, anniversaries, housewarmings, weddings, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas and Valentine's Day, with options already gift-wrapped. Roots Plants has an advice and inspiration section with buyer's guides, aftercare, gardening jobs, planting, pruning, garden design and growing food, as well as articles on plants for kids and a space dedicated to growers. The company states its support for British growers, fresh delivery from the nursery and its stance against plastic waste.
