Preloved Tech: tech buyback and recycling in Telford

Preloved Tech Ltd is a mobile phone and IT equipment buyback and recycling company based in Telford, Shropshire. Its activity combines the purchase of used devices, secure recycling and the resale of refurbished equipment, with the stated aim of reducing electronic waste and extending the useful life of devices.

Devices they buy and recycle

The company accepts a wide range of equipment, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, Mac computers, cameras, smartwatches and games consoles. The process starts with an online valuation: the user selects the device and its condition to get an instant price. According to the company, that price is maintained with no hidden costs, provided the specifications and condition of the device have been correctly stated.

How the service works for individuals

Sending the device is free. Preloved Tech provides a prepaid shipping label and a protective bag, and asks customers to use household cardboard to protect the equipment and minimise waste. Once received, the device undergoes diagnostics and data is wiped before payment is issued, which according to the company is made within two working days of receipt. If any issue arises, the company states that it contacts the customer before making payment.

Recycling for businesses and educational institutions

Through its corporate team, called Preloved Tech Circular, the company offers secure collection services for obsolete, surplus or end-of-life mobile devices and IT hardware. This service is aimed at businesses of all types and sizes, as well as educational institutions. The programme covers everything from the initial collection of the material to value release and the corresponding certification, with the aim of maximising return on assets and contributing to organisations' budgets.

Commitment to the circular economy and waste reduction

The company presents itself as an advocate of the circular economy: every device received is diverted from landfill, refurbished and resold to give it a second life. In addition, the company states that it plants trees when customers recycle, as a measure to offset its carbon footprint. The handling of sensitive data is carried out in accordance with data protection regulations, according to the company itself.

Awards

Preloved Tech has received several industry awards. In 2024 it was honoured at the Mobile Industry Awards in the Best Recycling and Refurbishing Service category. It has also been recognised as Biz Bubble Best Digital Business 2022, eBay For Business 2023 and #SBS Small Business Sunday 2021.

Publications and resources

The company runs a blog covering topics such as responsible hardware decommissioning, electronic waste management and its own milestones. Featured posts include articles on the importance of correctly decommissioning equipment before recycling it and on International E-Waste Day.
