About MedicalCert
MedicalCert: private medical certificates with GMC doctors
MedicalCert is a digital platform that connects patients with independent doctors registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK for private medical consultations. Through an online form, the user describes their history, symptoms and the reason for their request; this information is sent directly to an independent GP who evaluates each case individually. The company presents itself as a digital marketplace for medical services, not as a direct clinical provider: all clinical decisions rest with the reviewing doctor.
Types of certificates and letters available
MedicalCert's catalogue covers a wide variety of medical documents, organised by purpose. The main categories include:
- Sick notes and fit notes: sick note for work, fit to work certificate, injury or incident confirmation, adjustment to work duties, phased return to work, and sick notes for flu, sinusitis, migraines, shingles, bereavement or burnout.
- Mental health: emotional support letter, depression medical certificate, mental health support letter, stress leave certificate, anxiety medical certificate, sick note for panic attacks and social anxiety, and emotional support animal letter.
- Travel: fit to fly certificate, chickenpox recovery certificate, travel cancellation, fit-to-cruise certificate, medical certificate for youth camps or trips, pregnancy fit-to-fly certificate, and unable to fly due to medical reasons certificate.

- Sports: sports medical certificates, medical certificate for golf, medical certificate for scuba diving, and gym or health club cancellation.
- Other purposes: extensions for university assignments, housing support letter, actor and model fit-to-work certificate, insurance claim medical certificate, legal fitness certificate, disability accommodation letter, carer's leave certificate, and concert ticket medical certificate.
Application process and clinical review
The procedure consists of three steps. First, the patient completes an online consultation without the need for an appointment, answering a short medical questionnaire and able to upload supporting evidence. Second, a GMC-registered doctor reviews the documentation individually, considering current symptoms, functional impact, the stability of any pre-existing conditions and whether the documentation is medically justified at that time. Third, if the doctor determines that the request is clinically appropriate, they issue a signed certificate or letter; if not, no documentation is issued and the full amount is refunded.
The company states that most certificates are issued the same day and that almost all are delivered before 9:00 AM the next day, as a signed PDF sent to the patient's email address. If more evidence is needed, the doctor will contact them by email.
Verification and security of documents
Each certificate issued includes anti-tampering protection and its own verification reference. Employers, universities, airlines or insurers can check its authenticity against MedicalCert records. Altered or copied documents do not pass that check. The company also states that it is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under number ZC112101 and that it complies with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Medical team and credentials
Medical direction is provided by Dr Maria Knobel, identified with GMC number 7495073. The doctors who review requests are registered with the General Medical Council in the UK. The company clarifies that it does not generate certificates automatically: each request is evaluated according to the doctor's professional judgement and accepted clinical standards.
Scope and limitations
MedicalCert states that its certificates are accepted by most UK employers, universities and insurers, although final acceptance depends on each organisation's policies. The company does not guarantee acceptance by third parties and stresses that the documentation reflects the doctor's medical opinion at the time of review. The starting price is £47 and, if the certificate cannot be issued, the full amount is refunded.
