About WightFibre
WightFibre: full fibre on the Isle of Wight
WightFibre is a telecommunications company based on the Isle of Wight that has operated its own network infrastructure, independently of BT Openreach, since 2001. The company provides broadband, phone, and TV services to homes and businesses on the island, and presents itself as the only operator committed to deploying a full-fibre network across the entire island territory.
The Gigabit Island project
The Gigabit Island project has brought full fibre to more than 74,000 homes and businesses on the island, with the ultimate goal of connecting more than 80,000 homes to its network. The initiative has received more than £110 million from Infracapital Partners, with funding from HM Treasury and NatWest Bank. WightFibre also receives funding from Building Digital UK (BDUK) to extend its network coverage to around 80,000 properties on the island.
Broadband offering
The company sells full-fibre packages with guaranteed symmetrical upload and download speeds. The lineup includes Full-Fibre 100, 150, 300, 500, and 900, as well as All In options, which include the WightFibre TV service. All contracts are 30-day, monthly rolling, with no upfront costs and free installation. The company also offers a social tariff called WightFibre Social Tariff, aimed at recipients of Universal Credit, Pension Credit, Income Support, I-JSA, or I-ESA.
The site indicated a promotion with the code SEP10 that applied a £10 monthly discount for 12 months on several packages, valid until 30 September or while stocks last. According to the published information, the discount is removed after that period and no broadband price increase is planned until April 2028.
TV, phone, and WiFi
The WightFibre TV service offers more than 160 live channels and thousands of hours of on-demand content, with pause and rewind features. Phone service can be added to any broadband package with flexible plans for international calls, evening and weekend calls, or anytime calls. All customers receive a WightFibre router and access to the Plume Home app, which provides whole-home WiFi coverage using cloud-based technology and artificial intelligence.
Infrastructure and reliability
WightFibre's full-fibre network enables speeds of up to 900 Mbps upload and download, supports more simultaneous devices, and reduces electrical components, which according to the company improves reliability and avoids weather-related interference. The company describes its network as future-proof and aimed at keeping the island among the best-connected territories.
Local commitment and sustainability
WightFibre defines itself as a local island company and has kept the slogan 'because we care' integrated into its identity since 2015. The company publishes an annual environmental and social report and runs the Connected Communities programme, which offers free or discounted broadband to community groups, charities, and non-profit organisations. It also has a support programme for vulnerable customers.
