About Skirtech
Skirtech, specialists in MDF, pine and oak skirting boards and architraves
Skirtech is a British company dedicated to the design and manufacture of skirting boards and architraves, with over 25 years of experience in the woodworking industry. The firm presents itself as a moulding specialist and states that it has individually designed most of the profiles it sells, drawing on its knowledge of the properties of MDF.
According to its own description, the company selects quality materials and commissions the manufacture of carbide cutting knives to ensure that products meet its standards. Its catalogue includes over 60 profile designs.
Catalogue of mouldings and profiles
The range is organised into several product and material families:
- Skirting boards: in MDF, pine and oak, with simple, traditional, modern, grooved, detailed and stepped profiles.
- Architraves: in MDF, pine and oak, with the same profile variants.
- Other joinery elements: skirting covers, MDF and oak dado rail, MDF picture rail, MDF cornicing, MDF beading and MDF window boards.
MDF or pine: selection criteria
The company explains on its website the differences between its two main materials. MDF is the most popular: it offers a consistent and durable finish, is stronger than pine, has a smooth, blemish-free surface, is less prone to warping and is suitable for painting, as it is supplied pre-primed or finished. Pine, on the other hand, brings the beauty of natural grain, making it ideal for varnished finishes, and is more resistant to moisture than MDF; with primer, undercoat and top coat it can be a preferable option in wet areas.
As a guide, Skirtech suggests 18 mm thickness and 145 mm height as a first option for a skirting board.
Delivery, lead times and returns
The company offers free standard delivery on orders over £199. Express orders are delivered within 2 to 3 working days, while standard delivery typically takes 3 to 7 working days. For large urgent orders, the company makes the order bespoke in its factory for fast despatch.
As for returns, the period is 7 days: no returns or exchanges are accepted after that period. The item must be unused, in the same condition as received and in its original packaging. To process a return, you must first email the company with proof of purchase.
Price match guarantee and customer service
Skirtech offers a price match guarantee: if the customer finds the order cheaper from another legitimate seller, they can contact the company, which will try to beat the offer on price and service. The firm also highlights its support service, which it describes as friendly and experienced, and a customer experience rated five stars.
Collaborations and media presence
The company's blog features several collaborations. Skirtech supplied material to the BBC DIY SOS team for the renovation of a family's home, in a project involving several companies from the sector. It also provided dado rail for the 60 Minute Makeover programme, filmed in Gravesend in June 2014. In addition, the blog includes a review by Kevin Byrne OBE, founder of Checkatrade, about his first purchase from Skirtech.
