Sherman & Young Timber Ltd is a British timber and building materials merchant that, according to its own presentation, has been in business for over 50 years and serves both trade professionals and the general public. Its catalogue combines structural and joinery timber, sheet materials, composites, ironmongery and garden and construction supplies.

Structural and joinery timber

The timber range includes C16 graded pieces in widths of 100, 125, 150, 175, 200 and 225 mm, eased edge timber in 50 and 75 mm, landscape battens, ungraded timber and rough sawn in 100 and 150 mm. It also offers pyramid top and square top posts, site pegs and planed all round (PAR) redwood in 25, 38, 50, 75 and 100 mm.

For flooring and cladding it has tongue & groove and PTG boards, as well as loglap, shiplap and V-jointed cladding. This section is completed by door casings for internal, external and fire doors, intumescent strip and sapele door sills, along with scant and CLS timber and roofing battens.

Hardwoods, sheet materials and special pieces

In hardwoods it works with American white oak, ash, beech, sapele and walnut, several of them also in PAR format. The sheet materials section covers chipboard and chipboard flooring, contiboard, conti blocks and edging tape, London Pattern shelf brackets, hardboard, MDF and its variants moisture resistant, fire retardant, oak veneered, deep texture, fluted and primed, as well as OSB 3, OSB 3 T&G and structural OSB 3 boards.

The plywood range includes birch, buffalo birch, Chinese hardwood faced plywood, premium Chinese class 3 hardwood faced plywood, Malayan hardwood throughout plywood, marine plywood and pine plywood. For staircases it sells stair parts and bespoke staircases, with specifications and quotes available on request.

Composites, garden and outdoor

The composites section brings together composite cladding, Forma panel, Forma slatted composite decking, Linea decking, Forma and Grande decking, substructure joists and beams, and Clarity composite fencing with its gates. In outdoor and garden there is bin storage, outdoor kitchens, decking and decking boards with their accessories, concrete posts (corner, intermediate, end and 3-way), smooth face and rock face base panels, fence panels, feather edge board, trellis panels, post supports and landscape battens.

Garden gates include framed ledged & braced, closeboard, arched closeboard, external L&B redwood and external FL&B redwood models, with fittings such as ring and Suffolk latches, tee hinges, tower bolts, padlock bolts and cabin hooks.

Paints, treatments and building materials

The paints and treatments section comprises shed and fence paint, wood oil, wood preparation, wood stain and wood treatment and wood varnish. In adhesives and tapes it offers grab adhesive, mitre adhesive, PVA, spray adhesive, tape and wood glue. Aggregates include stone, sand, gravel, landscape fabric and rubble sacks; it also sells concrete and cement.

In fillers and sealants it has silicone, caulk, expanding foam and fillers. The plasterboard range includes plasterboard, bead & mesh, mini mesh bead, scrim tape, standard angle bead and thin coat bead / skim bead. For roofing it offers bitumen paint, breathable membrane, felt adhesive and mineral shed felt; in damp proofing, damp proof course and damp proof membrane.

Tools, fixings and ironmongery

The tools catalogue covers blades, brushes, chisels, drill bits, driver bits, hand saws, knives, levels, lighting, measuring, Roughneck storage, sundries and wheelbarrows. In fixings and builders ironmongery there are corner brackets, double sided timber connectors, joist hangers, London Pattern shelf brackets, mending plates and nail plates, premium wall starter kit, truss clips, bolts (carriage, multi-fix masonry and roofing), nails of various types (annular ringshank, ELH clout, Firmahold brad, Firmahold clipped head, FirmaHold fuel cells, hardboard, masonry, panel, polytop, round wire and square twist), bars, nuts and washers (Form A, penny/repair, square plate, threaded bar and zinc nuts) and screws (decking, drywall, Index Frame Constructions, masonry/concrete, nylon frame fixing, Solo Timber, Tongue-Fix and wall plugs).

It also offers sleeper brackets: single and double sleeper corner support spike, single and double sleeper straight support spike, internal sleeper corner support bracket, short and long internal sleeper straight flat support plate, sleeper/base anchor bracket – concrete in and sleeper screws – hex head.

Interiors, mouldings and worktops

In interiors it sells acoustic wall panels, assembled panels and loose slats; fire doors, pre-finished oak, white primed, walnut and from the Colours collection, as well as ply flush doors. Door ironmongery includes locks and latches, hinges and handles. Mouldings cover skirting and architraves in MDF, softwood and hardwood, and pine, plus MDF skirting, window board and Senses range worktops.

Sleepers and modified timber

The company sells treated sleepers, rustic English oak sleepers and their brackets, as well as Kebony Clear modified timber. In the offcuts and kindling section there are bulk bags of softwood offcuts, hardwood kindling in large net and bags of softwood kindling.
