J. Harrison & Sons Coal Merchants Ltd is a British family-run business dedicated to the supply of solid fuels, based at The Coal Yard, Milton Road, Stoke-on-Trent. The firm was founded in 1932 by Jack Harrison and continues to operate as a family business, according to its own presentation, with more than ninety years of experience in the coal industry.

The company serves both private individuals and factories, hotels, farms and other types of facilities, and sells its products through an online shop designed to make ordering and calculating delivery by postcode easier.

History and evolution of the business

Founded by the late Jack Harrison, the company initially operated from a shop and yard on Deaville Road, Bucknall. In its early years, coal was delivered to homes using horses and carts. As the business grew, Jack's four children joined and the product range was expanded. In 1992 the firm moved its operations to the Milton industrial estate, which allowed the company to expand and modernise. It currently employs around thirty people and supplies pre-packed fuels to petrol stations and shops.
